Advanced Digital Photography
Did you complete the Digital Photography Certificate or are you a capable photographer looking for a community with other photographers and to advance your skills? The Advanced Digital Photography series is for students who are post certificate or have received instructor permission. Students will expand on their technical and storytelling capabilities with hands-on technical training. These courses are hybrid (remote and in-person): Photo-shoots will be both outdoors and onsite, taking advantage of the extensive resources and specialized facility at the Center for the Digital Arts. Software-based review sessions will be remote on Zoom. Students may register for either course but are highly encouraged to sign up for both.
To register for certificate program classes, you must call 914-606-7300 or email Carmen Marrinan at carmen.marrinan@sunywcc.edu

Course Descriptions
Part 1: Finding the Story in the Environment
The Advanced Digital Photography Part 1 course will get started with a review of exposure and camera control, followed by shooting assignments with a concentration on finding the story in the chosen environment, be it landscape, street, or indoor photography. In-the-field shoots will be planned. We will review post-processing in Lightroom and learn new tools for masking and making adjustment selections based on tone and color. Photo critiques will occur throughout the semester, with an eye on creating an advanced portfolio. Photo-shoots will be in-person and critique reviews will be remote.

Part 2: Focus on Lighting
Advanced Digital Photography Part 2 is for experienced photography students seeking to refine their technical skills and deepen their artistic practice. The course is designed to further the skills covered in the Certificate program and/or Part 1 of the Advanced course. The format is a critique seminar
facilitated by an instructor. Students will be expected to present works on a regular basis for group discussion and critique. This structured and supportive environment enables students to engage with diverse perspectives and receive valuable insights from both peers and the instructor to help
refine their artistic vision. The critique format encourages students to critically analyze and articulate their creative choices. Students have the opportunity to experiment with new techniques, and cultivate their unique artistic voice, thus evolving as photographers and visual storytellers.
This course enables students to advance their technical skills and critical thinking by fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment with personalized mentorship.
