New Students
Welcome to Accessibility Services
This page will provide you with important information regarding the services available through Accessibility Services at SUNY Westchester Community College (SUNY WCC). This information pertains to students taking classes on the main campus, extension sites and remotely.
Step 2: Request that your high school and/or doctor provide the following disability information:
IEP/504 plan and a psycho-educational or neuropsychological evaluation
Letter from a healthcare professional. Letter should:
- Be on official letterhead
- Signed by the treating doctor (cannot be electronically signed)
- Include the current diagnosis
- Include the dates of treatment
- Provide recommendations for appropriate accommodations
Step 3: Complete and Submit the Student Intake Form
Students with a documented disability, in need of accommodations, are then responsible for disclosing this to the Accessibility Services and providing the above documentation to us. To do this, please complete the AS Student Intake Form and submit your disability documentation. If you have any difficulties filling out the Student Intake Form, please contact Accessibility.Services@sunywcc.edu.
Note: if you have not yet applied to SUNY Westchester Community College, please do so BEFORE filling out the DSO Student Intake Form on Accommodate. You can find more information on applying to the college by clicking HERE.
Step 4: Request the Directed Self-Placement Questionnaires
Once you have received an acceptance letter from the Admissions Office, the next step would be to request the Directed Self-Placement Questionnaires. To do so, click HERE and follow the steps to complete the DSP Questionnaires. If you have submitted your documentation to the AS and require assistance such as a reader, scribe, or sign language interpreter, please contact our office at Accessibility.Services@sunywcc.edu. It is the student’s responsibility to be sure that all documentation is sent to the DSO. All documentation supporting the need for accommodations must be on file and approved by Accessibility Services prior to your testing date.
Keep In Mind
Due to confidentiality laws, the Accessibility Services cannot provide initial contact prompting students to sign up for accommodations with our office. It is the student’s responsibility to self-disclose and sign for accommodations every semester. It is strongly recommended to do so at the start of each semester to ensure your accommodations are in place. Please note, accommodations do not automatically carry over from one semester to the next nor are they retroactive.
