Free Presentation by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Westchester for SUNY WCC students and faculty.
NAMI Westchester is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. It is a grassroots organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for all individuals and families whose lives are affected by mental illness and co-occurring disorders. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, support, and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raise awareness and build a community of hope for all those in need. NAMI offers the kind of understanding and care that only those who have lived the experience of mental illness can provide.
NAMI Westchester In Our Own Voice is a unique outreach program in which individuals living with mental illness speak to a variety of community groups about their own personal journeys. Using video, the speakers give their perspectives on living with a brain disorder and a compelling glimpse into the challenges they face. In Our Own Voice is a crucial effort to break the stigma of mental illness—a scorn that prevents people from seeking help when they need it and marginalizes those who struggle to fit into their communities.
