This workshop, led by Jacqueline Ahl (Dutchess Community College), will help faculty (re)design writing assignments via the principles of Universal Design for Learning, which aim to incorporate multiple means of engagement, representation, and action/expression. Also included in our discussion will be assumptions about foundational knowledge, the value of concrete language, and the use of models to reduce extraneous cognitive load. My goal is to shift from theory to practice and application—in a way that best fits your institution.
