BHM: Black and in the US Military
Part of Black History Month 2024
Date: Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 11:00 a.m to 12:30 p.m.
Location: Gateway Center, Davis Auditorium – SUNY Westchester Valhalla
In collaboration with the Veterans Resource Office, the Veteran’s Club, POWER 88.1, the Black Student Union, and Club Jamaica the Department of Student Involvement will offer an intimate discussion and live podcast recording with one of SUNY WCC’s current student veterans and retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Obrian Sangster. Obrian was born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, emigrated to the United States in 2003, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in December of 2004. Since then, he deployed twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan. While in the Marines he’d been stationed at various locations on both coasts of the United States and several locations throughout Asia. Obrian returned in December of 2022 and is joining us to share some of his experiences before, during, and after his military service. Light refreshments will be served.
