Automatic Scholarship Awards
SUNY WCC Scholarships recognize academic excellence, persistence, and determination. They provide a flexible source of funding to cover the costs of tuition, fees, and other educational expenses associated with college attendance. Gifts from generous donors enable the Westchester Community College Foundation to award nearly $3 million in student support annually.
Automatic Scholarships are awarded to students who meet academic and financial need criteria such as:
- Incoming students with a High School grade point average of 77 or higher
- Continuing students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Preference is given to students enrolled full time (12 credits or more)

Automated scholarships are awarded utilizing information from financial aid applications such as FAFSA, NYS Dream Act, or the Scholarship Financial Aid Need form to determine financial need (click here for details). Our financial aid system also reviews your academic progress, program and course registration to determine eligibility. Sophia & Joseph Abeles Gateway Scholarship
These scholarships were established to honor the contributions of Sophia Abeles, former WCC Foundation board member, and her husband Joseph. Scholarships of varying amounts are awarded to students of academic merit and educational fortitude, who demonstrate financial need.Alan & Jackie Stuart Scholarship
The Alan & Jacqueline Stuart Scholarship provides opportunity for hardworking students who demonstrate exceptional fortitude despite financial need. Preference will be given to students who are the first in their families to pursue a college degree.Alpha Group Scholarship

Established by family, friends, and colleagues in honor of the inauguration of WCC’s third president, this scholarship is awarded to a highly motivated full time student who demonstrates academic potential and financial need, agrees to take at least 15 credits a semester, and intends to gradate within three years. This scholarship fund was established in October 2011 to honor Dr. Joseph N. Hankin on his 40th anniversary as president of WCC, and to celebrate his tenure as the longest-serving community college president in the nation. At the behest of Paul W. Kates, this two-year fellowship is awarded annually to single parents in need of financial assistance who plan to attend WCC full- time for two years.WCC Foundation Gateway Scholarship
As part of the WCC Foundation’s Gateway Campaign, these scholarships are presented to outstanding matriculated immigrant students who exhibit both merit and need.Gateway to Education Endowed Scholarship
These scholarships are awarded to promising students with a demonstrated financial need who are either foreign born, previously enrolled in the English Language Institute, or the child of immigrant parents (1st generation American) or enrolled in studies that could lead to business development (such as Business Administration, International Business, or Fashion Merchandising) Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better.Italian Scholarship

The Nancy Jo Abeles awards were established in 1988 by Joseph and Sophia Abeles in memory of their daughter. Mrs. Abeles devoted most of her life to helping the lives of others, mostly through education. Over the years, she became quite involved with the college, serving on numerous committees and the foundation’s board of directors until her death in 2001. As a departing gift, Mrs. Abeles and her husband Joseph endowed the college with a gift of two million dollars to permanently establish the Nancy Jo Abeles Scholarships. First-Year Merit Scholarships are presented to incoming students who have succeeded in their high schools and/or have demonstrated potential for success at Westchester Community College. Over a more than four-decade career at WCC and as the CEO of Alpha Beta Gamma, Professor Christesen shaped the lives of over 100,000 community college students across the country. His renowned teaching ability combined with his indefatigable mentorship inspired countless of his proteges to pursue dreams far beyond their own visions. His ability to harness the power of the community to create opportunity through education set a gold standard in community college education. His favorite “Breakfast with the President” series regularly attracted New York’s most influential business leaders to share their life lessons directly with WCC students, demonstrating what could be possible through education, hard work and perseverance. This scholarship will fund a 2nd year Business Administration students that demonstrate financial need and academic excellence (with a GPA 3.5 or higher), continuing Professor Christesen’s legacy of enabling students in pursuit of careers in business.Jane Schneider Memorial Scholarships
