Viking ROADS
Viking ROADS is an opportunity program that helps motivated students graduate with an associate degree in three years or less. In exchange for full-time study and fulfilling program requirements, students will receive personalized advising, financial, and academic support. The Viking ROADS program is open to students in all A.A., A.S., and A.A.S. degree programs except the following:
- Nursing
- Paramedic
- Radiologic Technology
- Respiratory Care
- Veterinary Technology

ELIGIBILITY
- Be a New York State resident.
- Be a first-time student in college or a continuing/ transfer student with no more than 18 credits and at least a 2.0 GPA.
- Enroll in an eligible major (see below):
- Need no more than two developmental courses.
- Willing to enroll in full-time study.
Responsibilities
- Meet with the dedicated counselor regularly
It is important to establish a connection with your counselor early and continue regular contact throughout your time at WCC.
- Fulfill any required developmental coursework within the first year
Completing development courses in the first year ensures you can keep making progress towards your degree.
- Attend mandated tutoring for developmental courses and failed credit courses
In the case you do not pass an English, Math, or Science class, it will be necessary to enroll in that class in the following semester and get support from our Academic Support Center tutors to ensure you pass the second time.
- Enroll in full time study until completion
To ensure you can graduate on time, it is necessary to maintain full-time enrollment.
- Attend regular workshops
Attendance at college workshops or ROADS-sponsored events is a way to get important information about the college, help arrange your financial aid/transfer/career plans and meet other Viking ROADS students.
- Apply for financial aid each year
Your financial aid application allows us to determine who is eligible for our tuition assistance. It is also how you can be considered for college scholarships.
College Specific Transfer Scholarships
The following colleges offer scholarships to a limited number of transfers WCC students.
- Mercy University: Two full tuition scholarships, one for a Liberal Arts major and one for Business major.
- Pace University: Two full tuition scholarships, one for a Liberal Arts major and one for Business major.
- Fordham University: One $10,0000 scholarship.

Eligibility Requirements
- Current cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
- Graduated in August, or December and have not enrolled at a four-year college or university or on track to graduate in May of the current year.
- Plan to attend full-time for the Fall 2024 semester. (If you graduated in August or December and transferred for the spring semester, you are not eligible for these scholarships).
- Have not previously completed a Bachelor’s Degree.
To Apply for a College Specific Transfer Scholarship, review the eligibility criteria for each. Scholarship decisions are sent to your email in late May.
PepsiCo SMILE Scholarships
The PepsiCo Foundation S.M.I.L.E. (Success Matters in Life & Education) Scholarship is designed to help students transition from designated partner community colleges to four-year colleges and universities. This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

- Must have completed 45 credit hours by January 2024.
- Have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
- Plan to enroll in full time undergraduate study at an accredited college or university in the U.S., for the entire upcoming academic year, with anticipated graduation date in 2026.
- Have an indefinite right to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Identify as one or more of the following:
- Member of an underserved community (not receiving enough help, products, services).
- Experience in living or working in diverse environments.
- First generation college student (neither of the applicant’s parents have achieved a 4yr degree).
- Socioeconomically disadvantaged student.
- Individual who has overcome substantial educational or economic obstacles.
- Member of one or more organizations open to all, but whose missions seek to advance the needs of populations underserved or under-resourced in higher education (I.e. an organization with programs that support literacy in primary education).

JACK COOKE KENT SCHOLARSHIP
The Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is a highly selective scholarship for the nation’s top community college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees at four-year colleges or universities. Each Cooke Scholar has access to generous financial support for two to three years, college planning support, ongoing advising, and the opportunity to connect with the thriving community of fellow Scholars.

PROGRAM EXPERIENCE
Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational expenses – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees – for the final two to three years necessary to achieve a bachelor’s degree. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships they may receive.
This highly competitive scholarship includes:
- The opportunity to graduate with as little debt as possible. The award, which is last dollar funding after all institutional aid, can provide as much as $55,000 per year for two to three years to complete a bachelor’s degree at any accredited four-year undergraduate institution in the U.S.
- Ability to pursue any area of study
- Personal advising about selecting a college and navigating financial aid
- Multifaceted advising about how to transition to a four-year college and maximize the student experience
- Opportunity to apply for the Internship Stipend program, Conference and Travel Stipend, and Graduate Scholarship
