Health, Physical Education, and Human Performance
The philosophy of the Physical Education program is to encourage student participation in a variety of activities, especially those involving new skill. The Physical Education Department advocated emphasis on lifelong individual sports, fitness, health and safety issues that have carry-over values beyond the student’s college years into adulthood.
Students today are subject to formidable challenges ranging from economic, social and emotional stressors all of which can impact their health, well-being and academic success. Physical activities introduced through the Physical Education Department serve as preventive measures against chronic disease that are plaguing our society. These physical activities promote academic learning; improve self-esteem, cooperation and teamwork.
The Physical Education Department offers course in: Health & Fitness for Life, Exercise & Conditioning, Fitness, Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Soccer, Judo, Introduction to Physical Education Activities, Learn to Swim, Lifeguarding and First Aid CPR/AED.
Our facilities include a Fitness Center, Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Weight Lifting Room, Tennis Courts, Softball, Baseball and Soccer Fields. Check the lobby in the Physical Education Building for a schedule and availability of these facilities.
Our Athletic Department offers team for Men in Soccer, Cross-Courtry, Basketball, Bowling, Golf and Baseball. Programs for women include Volleyball, Cross-Country, Bowling, Basketball, Golf and Softball. Come visit our Athletic Office in the Physical Education Building for information on all our activities.
Good luck with your academic and college career at Westchester Community College. Stop by and meet our faculty, coaches and see our great facilities at the Physical Education Building.
Sincerely,
