Allied Health Careers
Dear Student,
I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Health Information Technology Programs. These programs will prepare you to handle the technical aspects of managing patient information. Our department offers two certificate programs in Medical Coding and Medical Billing and the AAS in Health Information Technology (HIT).
All options provide a background in HIT to build the knowledge and skill set required to succeed in the workplace or at a four-year school. We are very proud of our graduates many of whom now are enjoying careers in various healthcare settings.
To prepare you for a career in HIT, our faculty works hard to create a professional environment where you will be encouraged to apply your HIT expertise. We provide hands-on experience through the use a virtual lab, which provides a variety of healthcare software used to demonstrate and practice competencies in coding, claims submission, patient registration, release of information and Master Patient Index maintenance. Whether you are learning how to code a medical chart, submit insurance claims or manage electronic health records, we hope that you take advantage of the wonderful opportunities offered by our certificate and degree programs.
I wish you all the best in your academic journey and I encourage you to reach out to me via email, st20@sunywcc.edu if you have any questions or would like to learn more about the industry.
Sincerely,
Professor Sue Tural-Clarke, MHA, RHIA
