TEAS Exam Information
To apply to Westchester Community College, with the intention of getting into the Nursing Program the applicants must:
- Be a high school graduate or possess a GED Certificate
- New applicants to WCC must complete and submit an online Admissions application – www.sunywcc.edu/apply
- Note a new student does not apply directly to the Nursing Curriculum. They apply to the Liberal Arts Math Science curriculum or Health Studies curriculum.
- Submit official high school transcript to the Office of Admissions – HSTranscript@sunywcc.edu
- Submit official college transcript to Registrar’s Office – Etrans@sunywcc.edu
- Meet with an academic counselor www.sunywcc.edu/getadvised
- Pass the TEAS Exam. The TEAS Exam determines a student’s admission to SUNY WCC Nursing program.

TEAS Prerequisites
Prior to applying to take the TEAS Exam, all candidates must complete the following prerequisites:
- High School Biology / Living Environment and High School Chemistry with a lab with a passing grade of 70 within 10 years of the application to the TEAS.
Or
College Level * Biology and Chemistry 4 credits each with a lab with a passing grade of “C” taken within 10 years of the application to the TEAS. (Please Note: * does not include A&P 1 & 2 or Microbiology)
Important Note – A student wishing to apply for the fall or spring SUNY WCC Nursing program must have completed and passed a high school Biology and Chemistry with a minimum grade of 70 or have taken and passed a 4 credit college level *Biology with a lab and Chemistry with a lab with a minimum grade of “C” /70 within or less than 10 years from the TEAS exam. (Please Note: * does not include A&P 1 & 2 or Microbiology)
If Biology and Chemistry were more than 10 years, the student will have to repeat the two courses prior to applying to the program.
All applicants must be high school graduates, GED Certificate holders, or in their last year of high school. with an expected graduation date prior to entrance into the SUNY WCC’s Nursing Program.
Submission of an official high school transcript to our Admissions Office with a date of graduation is required.
Official college transcript(s) must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office in a sealed envelope mailed directly from a college or electronically through Etrans@sunywcc.edu for evaluation of any transfer credit.

Application Deadlines and Transcripts
All Non-Westchester Community College students who wish to apply to the SUNY WCC Nursing program must first complete a WCC Application of Admission to the Liberal Arts Math/Science Curriculum. (See the TEAS Registration Process below for specific dates.) Students are not considered a nursing student until officially accepted in the program.
All applicants must be high school graduates, GED Certificate holders, or in their last year of high school with an expected graduation date prior to entrance into the SUNY WCC’s Nursing Program.
Submission of an official high school transcript to our Admissions Office with a date of graduation is required. Official College transcript(s) must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office for evaluation of any transfer credit.

Placement Testing
Placement testing is required of all new students in the subjects of English and Math unless the student has transfer college credit with a grade of C or higher; or is exempted from the Placement Test based on SAT/ACT Scores, or AP credit for either English, Math or both. All applicants must be a high school graduate, a GED Certificate holder or in their last year of high school with a graduation date prior to the entrance into the SUNY WCC Nursing program. Students who require developmental courses must complete them and be college level ready in Math and English to take the TEAS exam.

Test of Essential Academic Skills Exam (TEAS Exam)
- The TEAS Exam determines a student’s admission to SUNY WCC’s Nursing Program.
- All students taking the TEAS must have applied to SUNY WCC and been assigned a student ID number.
- Students must submit the completed WCC TEAS REGISTRATION FORM and required documents.
- See TEAS REGISTRATION PROCESS for all instructions on how to submit all documents.
- There are two TEAS exams per year.
- March Exam for September (fall) Admission
- October Exam for January (spring) Admission
- You may take the TEAS exam each time offered.
If you retest, you must resubmit all documents and a money order. Those who test in March will receive status results in April. Those who test in October will receive status results in November.
Once your TEAS Application Packet (all documents) is submitted to the Testing Center, it is reviewed by the TEAS Review Committee. If your application is approved, you will receive confirmation of your test
date from TEASApp@sunywcc.edu via email. If you have any scheduling concerns, please contact TEASApp@sunywcc.edu.
The TEAS Exam is a computerized test given in person. The testing is done on the Valhalla Campus in the Library’s Placement Testing Center located on the lower level. You are required to bring a photo I.D. and arrive one half hour prior to the start of the exam. Calculators are provided. The exam is 3.5 hours and 170 questions. Instructions on how to navigate the computerized test are given during the same time as exam. No children allowed!
If the exam is given remotely a set of instructions and computer requirements will be emailed to you prior to your taking the exam. It is the student’s responsibility to have the appropriate technology to access the exam.

Things to Know
Generally, the SUNY WCC Nursing Program is a Mon-Fri program offered during the day only.
During the first three semesters, the program is 3 days per week: 1 day of class, 1 day of lab, 1 day of clinical. During the last semester, the program is 4 days per week 2 days of class, 2 days of clinical.
Clinical sites are assigned, and done in a variety of locations, including the following sites.
- New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital (Peekskill)
- The Osborn (Rye)
- Blythedale (Valhalla)
- Burke Rehabilitation Center (White Plains)
- Westchester Medical Center (Valhalla)/Maria Fererri Children’s Hospital (WMC)
- The Grove (Valhalla)
- White Plains Hospital (White Plains)
- St. Joseph’s Hospital (Yonkers)
- Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital (New Rochelle)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
VACCINATIONS
Any student accepted into the SUNYWCC Nursing program, after taking the TEAS exam, is required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. There are no exceptions.
CPR certification will be required for a two-year period once the candidate is accepted into the program. The certification must remain current during the student’s entire time in the SUNY WCC Nursing Program.
LPN Option
You must take the TEAS exam even if you have an LPN license. Once accepted into the program, you are eligible to take a challenge exam to obtain credit for the first nursing course (Fundamentals ADN 120),
without taking the course. There are, however, modules that will need to be done as well as a performance exam and successful completion of NUR 102 (Dosage), which must be taken prior to entering the second nursing course, ADN 131.
Important note
Students with a record of failure in the SUNY WCC Nursing program will not be considered for readmission to the program. If you have been a former student who withdrew from the SUNY WCC Nursing program without failing, the faculty reserves the right to review your application and determine your eligibility for readmission to the program.
Your TEAS Application Packet (all documents) must be mailed to the Testing Center and postmarked by the due date. If your application is reviewed and approved, you will receive confirmation of your test date from TEASApp@sunywcc.edu via email. Summary and registration instructions to take the TEAS EXAM

PLEASE read this entire section CAREFULLY!
Your application for admission to the Spring 2025 Nursing Program at Westchester Community College will only be considered upon meeting following conditions:
- All potential Nursing and TEAS EXAM candidates must have a WCC student ID# and an active WCC email address. NOTIFICATION AND UPDATES FOR THE TEAS WILL BE SENT TO YOUR WCC EMAIL ONLY
- New Students: If you have never taken a class at WCC you must apply to the college through the Admissions office as a NEW student. Admission applications for the sole purpose of eligibility for the TEAS exam are accepted no later than 09/16/24.

- If you require placement testing and/or remedial courses these must be completed before submission of your TEAS Registration Form and requisite documentation.
- All newly Applied Students and Continuing WCC Students: TEAS Registration Form with requisites and payment must be received on campus via mail no later than 10/08/24 no exceptions.

- Proof of Requisites for taking the TEAS EXAM include:
- Candidates must have submitted an Official High School Transcript with graduation date or with High School Diploma or GED Certificate to the Admissions office.
- Proof of college level readiness for English and Mathematics *See outlined prerequisites on the web
- All candidates must have either a High School Level Biology and Chemistry or the college equivalent completed prior to submitting a TEAS Registration *See Outlined prerequisites on the web
- All NEW and Continuing Students must submit pre-requisite proof along with your TEAS Registration Form to qualify for taking the TEAS Exam. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable proof for taking the exam only. Note official college transcripts are required for an official evaluation of acceptable transfer credits, all official electronic transcripts from other institutions can be sent to Etrans@sunywcc.edu or mailed directly to the Office of the Registrar at Westchester Community College. **There is no need to send WCC Official transcripts to this email.**
- Science Pre-requisites must have been taken 2014 or later. Candidates cannot be enrolled in either biology and/or chemistry during the same semester as the TEAS Examination.
