Creating Actionable Plans
October 4, 2024
Colleagues,
Last week’s Friday message presented a timeline of key dates in our plans to address the gaps outlined in the Middle States Commission on Higher Education feedback report. We are already well on our way to addressing these gaps.
As mentioned last week, Dr. Ryan Hartnett from Middle States will visit campus on October 15. As part of that visit, he will meet with the campus community in an open forum in Davis Auditorium at 11 am. I encourage all of you to attend.
Over the past few weeks, we have convened teams to review our current assessment practices, identify areas of improvement, and create actionable plans to move forward.
A Middle States monitoring report core team consisting of VP Vanessa Morest, VP Ben Naylor, CDO Rinardo Reddick, AVP Adam Frank, and Dean Pam Pollard will oversee the process of ensuring the college is responding appropriately to the deficiencies noted in the team report.
Academic task force subcommittees are meeting, and curriculum chairs are beginning to work on curriculum maps. For administrative improvements, VPs are working with their unit leaders to prepare mission statements, as well as goals and objectives. A small taskforce will review the information submitted by departments to ensure that it adheres to assessment best practices including SMART goal standards. A detailed timeline has been developed for submission of the various elements of the administrative assessment process culminating in a close-the-loop meeting before August 1, 2025.
As we move forward, please be assured that these efforts are ongoing, and your input remains invaluable. We are committed to transparency throughout this process and will continue to provide updates on our progress. Together, we can build a stronger framework and culture of assessment at WCC. Thank you for your continued dedication and engagement in this critical work.
Dr. Belinda S. Miles
