Current open positions are posted under Openings on our web site. Resumes are received by Human Resources and disseminated to the various College Departments or search committees. Prospective candidates are contacted directly by the hiring division.
Salaried support positions are either classified or unclassified Civil Service positions (see Civil Service Overview) and may require a civil service test.
Civil Service Overview
The majority of support staff serve in positions in the classified service as defined by New York State Civil service Law.
The Classified group is divided into four classes:
- Competitive Class: includes all positions for which it is practical to determine merit and fitness of the applicants by competitive examination. Many College staff positions are in this class.
- Non-competitive Class: includes positions determined impractical to fill through competitive examination. Merit and fitness for these positions are determined by a review of candidates training and experience.
- Labor Class: includes unskilled positions which there are generally no minimum job qualifications.
- Exempt class: includes policy making and/or confidential position such as most deputy commissioners, attorneys etc.
Civil service examinations are regularly held in Westchester County for competitive job titles. Tests may be offered for each job title on an open competitive and/or promotional basis. Job postings can be found at the Westchester County Human Resources web site.
