Black Hispanic Male Initiative (BHMI) Mission Statement: BHMI provides a lifeline of mentorship for male students of color here at WCC. We are committed to increasing persistence, academic achievement, and self-efficacy as their journey to graduation and transition from the college defines our primary directive.
Black Hispanic Male Initiative (BHMI) Vision Statement: BHMI is dedicated to the pursuit of challenging its members to graduate with academic distinction with an enduring spirit of personal growth to meet daily challenges with resiliency, determination, and resolve.
Black Hispanic Male Initiative (BHMI) Values:
To foster self-determination, we encourage:
- Intellectual curiosity about how the rigor of learning can benefit their personal development
- Respect for others and how open dialogue helps to develop diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Resiliency to meet challenges with clarity, patience, perseverance, and professional assistance
To foster communication with stakeholders we encourage:
- Empowerment to engage and advocate for guidance, information, and clarity in the classroom
- Networking to embellish personal development and to identify helpful resources on campus
- Purpose as a reflection of the value & importance of self-identity, idealism, & aspiration
To foster socialization on campus we encourage:
- Active participation in student life, clubs, campus activities, and student success programming
- Leadership in student government, mentorship, and volunteerism
- Advocacy for services and improvements which enhance student success and collegiate spirit
