State of the College / Foundation Annual Report

“I had a wonderful experience in high school and I’m proud to say that my time in college has been terrific, too. At Ossining High School, I learned frommy peers, grew as a person, and developed communication skills. In terms of college preparation, I credit Ossining High School with the foundation I needed to succeed. The State University of New York and Advanced Placement courses offered at the school really prepared me for college. However, choosing a college was stressful. I had many op- tions since my grades were good and I had applied to many colleges. I was accepted to several private universities but I was uncomfortable with taking out loans and I was unsure of a possible major, so I chose Westchester Community College. Going to Westchester Community College was the best decision I could have made. GRADUATE JADONROBINSON I eventually discovered my major and primary interest: Digital Filmmaking. I’ve become a proud member of the college’s Black and Hispanic Male Initiative, Digital Film Club, Living for Giving Club, and Phi Theta Kappa. I also received a Kathryn Davis Global Community Scholarship. I must thank all of these groups for making such a positive impact on my life. I loved my experience at Westchester Community College and all the people who I have been inspired by during my time here. With- out them, there would be no “Community” in the name of this school!” UNDERGARDUATE JERMAINEREID “I dreamed a dream that I would someday become someone who would help change the world. And now my dream is coming true! Attending Westchester Community College has changed my life completely. It will forever be the place that started my journey toward success. I was never that fond of school while I was growing up, but as I matured, I gradually began to understand the need for education. I wasn’t sure which major to pick when I selected my college, but I did know that I wanted to help not just myself but the world around me. I found my passion in the healthcare field. My major is Nursing and I want to become a nurse practitioner or a doctor. I am determined to give back and aid the world around me; that’s my motivation.” The college’s graduation rate continues to climb and that positively impacts the number of students at the annual grad- uation ceremony. Nearly 2,000 students were granted degrees at this ceremony. I wasn’t sure which major to pick when I selected my college, but I did know that I wanted to help not just myself but the world around me. 2020 State of the College & Foundation Annual Report 08 www.sunywcc.edu 09
