10 Westchester Community College LEADING-EDGE EDUCATION As the local economy evolves, we constantly initiate new academic programs leading to cutting edge careers. Our newly instituted Health Information Technology (Associate of Applied Science) Program prepares students to manage patient data in a diverse range of healthcare settings. The college’s certificates in Medical Coding and Medical Billing may be utilized as “stackable credentials” and can be applied toward this new degree. The Health and Human Performance (Associate of Science) Program is also new, leading students toward the growing fields of health, fitness and wellness. The coursework provides a strong foundation as well as great flexibility for students interested in transferring to a four-year college with related degree programs including Pre-Professional Programs, Exercise Science, and Exercise Physiology. The two-semester Personal Training Certificate provides a mix of theory and practical training leading to the opportunity for immediate employment upon completion. Personal Trainers are fitness professionals responsible for educating clients of all ages in multiple aspects of wellness including exercise, general health, nutrition, and athletic performance. They work in a variety of fitness settings such as public and private fitness centers, schools, adult centers and corporate wellness programs. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the demand for Certified Personal Trainers makes it one of the fastest growing professions, with double-digit growth expected over the next decade. As we plan for the future of the college, we are also planning for the success of our graduates who will positively influence the economic progress of Westchester County. Our continuing focus on preparing students for further study or careers will help strengthen the entire region.
