Were You Here That Day?
On October 8, 1999, Lady Bird Johnson and her daughters, Lynda Johnson Robb and Luci Baines Johnson, attend the dedication ceremony of the garden in her name here at Westchester Community College. The demonstration meadow and beds were created by The Native Plant Center, which at the time was the nascent first affiliate of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Texas (then known as the National Wildflower Research Center).
Since then the garden has been teaching visitors and students about the use of native plants while keeping the legacy of Mrs. Johnson alive. It also introduces the former First Lady to generations of students.
If you attended the ceremony with Mrs. Johnson 20 years ago, please share your story and photos with us by email to wcc.nativeplant@sunywcc.edu.
