Getting Started in the Nursing Program
About the SUNY WCC Nursing A.A.S. Program
The Nursing A.A.S. Program is a two year, four-semester program, designed to prepare students for careers as Registered Nurses. There is one nursing course offered in each of the four semesters. All nursing courses are offered on the Valhalla Campus. Nursing courses from other institutions are not transferable to the SUNY WCC Nursing Program. Students must receive a final grade of C or higher in all prerequisite and general education courses. Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 must be completed with a grade of C+ or higher. All nursing courses must be completed with a grade of C+ or higher.
Students must first be admitted to the SUNY WCC’s Nursing Program before they can enroll in nursing courses. Read the steps below to learn more about the Nursing program application process. Candidates for the Nursing Program should also review the Essential Functions for Admission to evaluate their own abilities to be successful.
How do I become a Nursing student at SUNY WCC?
1. Apply to SUNY WCC, then the Nursing A.A.S. Program
If you wish to apply to the Nursing Program but are not yet a SUNY Westchester Community College student, you must first complete a general application to SUNY WCC.
New students must apply to the Liberal Arts and Sciences/Mathematics and Science A.S., Liberal Arts and Sciences/Social Sciences A.A., or Health Studies A.S., not the Nursing A.A.S.
You are not considered a Nursing Program student until you are accepted into the Nursing Program.
To apply for the Nursing Program, a candidate must be a high school graduate, a GED Certificate holder, or in their last year of high school with a graduation date prior to their planned Nursing Program entrance date. Nursing Program candidates must submit an Official High School transcript with a date of graduation. It is recommended to submit a High School Diploma copy as well. View more info about the steps that all newly accepted students must complete on the Accepted Students page.
If you have already been accepted to SUNY WCC and you are ready to apply for the Nursing A.A.S. Program, move on to the next steps to review information about Nursing program prerequisites and the TEAS exam.
2. Attend a Virtual Nursing Program Information Session and Prepare to Take the TEAS Exam.
Candidates must apply to the Nursing Program and take the ATI TEAS through SUNY WCC, not independently. Exams taken independently will not be accepted. To learn more about applying to the Nursing program and the TEAS exam, you can attend a virtual Nursing Program Information Session.
If you are ready to register for the TEAS exam, complete the
