Steps for Parents to Apply for a Direct Plus Loan
The William D. Ford Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) is a loan that you may be able to borrow on behalf of your child as part of his/her financial aid award package. This loan is subject to credit approval by the U.S. Department of Education. Please note that grandparents, legal guardians and other family members do not qualify to borrow a PLUS on behalf of the dependent student. A dependent student is one who meets the criteria outlined on the FAFSA application. Please refer to these documents for the federal definition for a dependent student. Your child should first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
