Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (MAA)
Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (MAA)
This program prepares students for a variety of clerical support positions in the healthcare field. Students receive training in maintenance of medical records, medical terminology, basics of medical billing and coding, office procedures, providing effective customer service, scheduling and confirming patient appointments, database and keyboarding skills and other administrative skills. The curriculum also includes HIPAA training. Students who successfully complete the program have the opportunity to obtain national certification (from the National Healthcareers Association) as a Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA).
Criteria for Enrollment: High school diploma or HSE; TABE test;** keyboarding skills of 20 wpm minimum.
Required Courses Include: Medical Administration Training, Medical Billing & Coding I, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Human Relations.

Certified Medical Billing & Coding Clerk (MBC)
Certified Medical Billing & Coding Clerk (MBC)
This program is designed for students who are detail-oriented and interested in working “behind the scenes” as health information professionals in a variety of medical settings. Successful graduates are eligible to take the National Health Association (NHA) Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam. They also qualify for employment in entry-level positions such as medical biller/coder, medical biller/customer service representative, medical records clerk/assistant and insurance claims clerk. In addition to health-related coursework that emphasizes procedures used in a medical environment, students are taught basic computer skills using the latest software.
Criteria for Enrollment: High school diploma or HSE; TABE test;** interest in the medical/clerical field; keyboarding skills.
Required Courses Include: Medical Billing & Coding I and II, Medical Terminology I and II, Human Relations, Microsoft Office. This program includes a four-week internship in a medical office.

Certified Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide (CNA/HHA)
Certified Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide (CNA/HHA)
This program is designed for caring individuals who have an interest in healthcare careers and would like dual training as Home Health Aides and Certified Nurse Aides. It prepares students to take and pass the New York State certification examination and for registration on the New York State Home Care Registry. Students learn medical terminology, abbreviations, the functions of body systems, and patient care. This New York State–approved program covers the basics of personal care for the elderly and homebound, and patient care for those in nursing homes, assisted living centers and hospitals, including appropriate bed-making, feeding and monitoring of vital signs. Students are required to successfully complete two supervised clinical work experiences.
Criteria for Enrollment: High school diploma or HSE; TABE test;** ability to pass a physical exam (including drug test); interest in the health field; purchase of designated uniform. Scrubs must be worn on the first day of class. Results from completed physical exam and drug test must be submitted prior to the first day of class. New York State clearance and fingerprinting required for employment.
Required Courses Include: Anatomy & Physiology, Fundamentals of Patient Care, Nutrition, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Human Relations, Supervised Clinical Experience, Long-Term Care Clinical Rotation, Occupational Exam Preparation.

Certified Pharmacy Technician (PHT)
Certified Pharmacy Technician (PHT)
This program is provided in partnership with CVS and is designed for individuals who are customer-friendly and interested in pursuing a career in the rapidly growing pharmacy industry. Students are taught how to prepare medications, provide exceptional customer service, and perform general administrative duties in a pharmacy setting, while also preparing for the nationally recognized Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination. Successful completers have an opportunity to secure employment with CVS or other pharmacies in retail, hospital, clinical and other settings.
Criteria for Enrollment: High school diploma or HSE; TABE test;** ability to pass a physical exam (including drug test); ability to pass CVS online application and background check; no felonies.
Required Courses Include: Introduction to Pharmacy Technician, Fundamentals of Pharmacology, Human Relations, Occupational Exam Preparation. The program includes a four-week externship at a pharmacy.

College Prep Academy (CPA)
College Prep Academy (CPA)
This program is designed for students who are interested in attending college and would like assistance in preparing academically and otherwise for the college experience. Emphasis is placed on reading, writing and math skills, preparation for placement exams, and overall college readiness. In addition to classroom instruction, College Prep students receive services through our College Connections Initiative, including weekly workshops to develop and re-evaluate college and career plans and to learn/improve notetaking, time-management, study and test-taking skills. Students also have the opportunity to go on college tours and receive assistance with completing college-enrollment and financial-aid applications. A typical week includes 15 hours of instruction and two to four hours of workshops.
Criteria for Enrollment: High school diploma or HSE; TABE test;** desire to enroll in college.
Required Courses Include: English for College, Math for College, College Success Seminar.

Commercial Driver License (CDL)
Commercial Driver License (CDL)
This program will prepare students for employment opportunities as commercial drivers. The vocational training component includes both classroom review of the road manual for commercial drivers and behind-the-wheel training. Our professional CDL training prepares students to get a Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brakes endorsement. A CDL license will enable students to seek employment driving vehicles which include full-size buses, trucks and vans. Successful completers will be able to drive school buses, tour buses and commercial vehicles with air brakes. The program also emphasizes career-readiness skills.
Criteria for Enrollment: TABE test.** Valid NYS driver license for at least one year, driving abstract, driver license/history clear of moving violations for the past year, no outstanding tickets, and no felony or drug convictions. Misdemeanors will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must have an interest in a career as a Commercial Driver. Preference will be given to applicants with zero points on their driving abstract. U.S. Department of Transportation medical examination required for the CDL. Must be available for both in-class and behind-the-wheel training. High school diploma is not required.
Required Courses Include: Commercial Driver License Training, Human Relations, Workforce Preparation and Success.

Electrocardiogram Technician (EKG)
Electrocardiogram Technician (EKG)
This program provides the knowledge and complete hands-on training, with professional medical equipment, to prepare students as Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technicians. Students will learn techniques for accurate EKG recording and how to perform EKGs on patients. The curriculum includes basic principles of electrophysiology of the heart and recognizing electrocardiograph waves patterns. The course also covers medical terminology as well as anatomy and physiology of the heart.
Criteria for Enrollment: High school diploma or HSE; TABE test;** ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.; ability to pass a physical exam (including drug test); interest in/capacity for health field; one of the following: current NYS Nurse Aide Certification or current NYS EMT Certification.
Required Courses Include: Performing EKG, Human Relations, Occupational Exam Preparation.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
This New York State–approved program is designed for students interested in responding to emergency calls, performing emergency medical procedures and transporting patients to hospitals. Our EMT program prepares students to take and pass the New York State Department of Health’s examination to become Emergency Medical Technicians. At the conclusion of training, students will be able to demonstrate the appropriate and required procedures for responding to medical emergencies and crises, including administering CPR and defibrillation. The program includes a 10-hour clinical rotation in an emergency department.
Criteria for Enrollment: High school diploma or HSE; TABE test;** ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.; ability to pass a physical exam (including drug test); interest in / capacity for health field; must be 18 years old when Practical Skills & Written Certification Exam is taken; valid NYS driver license and driving abstract clear of moving violations for the previous two years; New York State clearance is required.
Required Courses Include: Emergency Medical Technician, Human Relations.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Our ESOL program emphasizes academic and career readiness. The curriculum is designed to develop language proficiency for the workplace and/or academic life in vocational or college programs. Authentic language interaction connects classroom learning to what students encounter in their daily lives.
Intensive instruction in reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar and vocabulary prepares students for long-term success and continued progress in the workplace, college or a vocational program. This is a standards-based program that promotes workforce, academic, and life-skills practice and prepares adult learners for a successful transition into their community. Learning is interactive and student-centered and ensures an understanding of English — from basic to high-intermediate levels — while building student confidence. Interesting, relevant material connects adult learners to topics that affect them and allows for purposeful engagement while addressing their varied needs and interests.
Criteria for Enrollment: BEST test; NYS Placement Test for English As a Second Language Adult Student; may have to take TABE test.**
Required Courses Include: Program 1—English Language Foundations, Program 2—Intermediate Academic and Career English, Program 3—Advanced Academic and Career English, Computer Literacy & Self-Paced Lab.

High School Equivalency (HSE)
High School Equivalency (HSE)
This program is designed to help students who do not have a high school diploma take and pass the HSE test. Students are assessed for placement at intake and are then enrolled in the appropriate HSE level and given instruction and academic support to improve their basic reading, writing, math, science and/or social studies skills. The HSE program allows students to progress at their own pace in each subject needed to prepare for the HSE examination. Upon successful completion of the HSE program requirements, students are scheduled to take the HSE examination on-site at our Center (Westchester EOC is an official HSE Test Site for the New York State Department of Education).
Criteria for Enrollment: TABE test.**

Home Health Aide (HHA)
Home Health Aide (HHA)
This program is designed to help caring individuals gain employment as Home Health Aides. Students learn the essentials of home and personal care, including basic housekeeping, feeding and bathing, in order to assist the elderly and homebound in their homes.
Criteria for Enrollment: High school diploma or HSE; TABE test;** ability to pass a physical exam (including drug test); interest in the health field; purchase of designated uniform. Results from completed physical exam and drug test must be submitted prior to the first day of class. New York State clearance and fingerprinting required for employment.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
Our OSHA program prepares students for positions in the construction industry and serves as an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers. It is an advanced training in common safety and health hazards on the job. Course topics include, but are not limited to, managing safety and health, personal protective equipment, asbestos, electrical safety, fall protection, ladder safety and heavy equipment, including cranes and forklifts.
Students who successfully complete this program will receive an official Department of Labor (DOL) OSHA 30-Hour Construction Completion Card and an NYC Site Safety Training (SST) Card.
Criteria for Enrollment: TABE locator test. Must be at least 18 years old.
Required Courses Include: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30 Training, Site Safety Training (SST) 10, Workforce Preparation and Success.

Duration: 3 weeks.
Phlebotomy Technician (PHL)
Phlebotomy Technician (PHL)
This program provides the knowledge and complete hands-on training, with professional medical equipment, to prepare students as Phlebotomy Technicians. Students are introduced to the procedures used for obtaining blood from veins and capillaries. In addition, they learn the basic principles of blood drawing, identification of color-coded tubes, practicing blood draw on an artificial arm, and sites of venipuncture and skin puncture.
Criteria for Enrollment: High school diploma or HSE; one of the following: current NYS Nurse Aide Certification or current NYS EMT Certification.
Required Courses Include: Phlebotomy, Human Relations, Occupational Exam Preparation.

Duration: 8–9 weeks.
Security Guard (SG)
Security Guard (SG)
This program prepares students for entry-level positions as security officers. Students will learn the fundamental skills and knowledge of the security industry. Instruction, through lecture and applied exercises, will focus on report writing, first aid, investigative techniques and communication skills. Students who successfully complete this program will obtain a New York State security guard registration. In addition, students will receive an NYC FD (Fire Department) Certificate of Fitness.
Criteria for Enrollment: High school diploma or HSE; TABE test.** Must be at least 18 years old.
Required Courses Include: Security Guard Training — Pre-Service, Security Guard Training OJT, Fire Guard Training, Workforce Preparation and Success.
